“Concorso d´Eleganza Villa d´Este, Italy”
For almost 140 years, the luxury hotel Villa Este on Lake Como has been a destination for the rich and famous. Since 1929, the world’s most beautiful cars have also gathered there once a year. Bernhard Kerkloh from Movendi did not want to miss this event and was there for the first time. Once again, Cernobbio on Lake Como was transformed into the capital of all car and motorcycle enthusiasts for two days over Pentecost. The “Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este” showcased a unique selection of classic cars and new concept cars that thrilled the audience.
The vehicles on display were distinguished by their excellent condition; the models were selected on the basis of their historical, technical, and aesthetic significance, their rarity and authenticity, as well as their elegance and stylistic appeal, as stated in the regulations. The accepted applicants were then sorted into one of nine more or less precisely defined groups, such as Little Jewels or The Art of Streamlining.
Prizes were awarded in all classes, and there were also a number of additional awards, which were decided by either the visiting public or a high-profile jury including designers Patrick Le Quement and Hideo Kodama, car enthusiast Nick Mason, and Goodwood organizer Lord March, depending on the trophy….
Both agreed: The 1933 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS, 6th Series Coupé, Figoni was crowned Best of Show with the Jury Prize, the Trofeo BMW Group, as well as the Audience Award, the Coppa Oro Villa Este. The Alfa Romeo 4C prevailed in the “Concept Cars and Prototypes” class.
