Goodwood Revival 2012
The popular classic car festival takes place every year in West Sussex, England. This year, nearly 160,000 visitors made the pilgrimage to Lord March’s front yard. Anyone who wasn’t dressed appropriately had to stay outside. In the otherwise rather sleepy area around the British town of Chichester, total traffic chaos reigns for at least two weekends. The Festival of Speed is responsible for the first, somewhat smaller traffic jam marathon of the year. However, it is the Goodwood Revival that brings traffic to a complete standstill.
This year’s highlight of the Goodwood Revival comes from Germany. After almost 80 years, the legendary Silver Arrows are back on the racetrack for the first time, competing against each other, or rather with each other. The race cars, which even back then were capable of speeds of over 300 kilometers per hour, are piloted by race car drivers such as Jochen Mass and Bernd Schneider at almost the original racing speed around the 3.8-kilometer racetrack in Lord March’s front yard.
Much more exciting, at least for the younger guests, are the Austin J40 pedal cars. Thirty of them, all driven by children, competed in two races on the start-finish straight. “Don’t stop pedaling until you cross the finish line,” joked the race director.
We were there again this year. We, and especially Sandra Kowalski from Movendi, would like to thank Lord March for this successful annual event.
