Coupé des Alpes 2013
With over 220 starters, we also took to the route from Evian across the Alps to Cannes this year. The starting conditions couldn’t have been better. The sun was shining and stayed that way until the finish line. Two large groups had traveled from Germany and brought first-class vehicles with them. I was lucky enough to be able to drive two different Italian cars uphill and downhill. Now I’m not sure whether I’ve fallen for the Giulia’s yellow fever or whether I’m developing an affection for the Dino, which, to my great surprise, is very easy to drive. After three days with thousands of curves and countless passes, our vehicles arrived safely in Cannes. The crowning glory was the award ceremony, where our Wessel was presented with the biggest trophy of the evening. No one was surprised when our gentleman Wessel immediately grabbed the microphone to pass the trophy on to Manni and Eike. The two of them had a brake line break on a pass in their Healey Silverstone. After a makeshift repair, they drove down into the valley using only the left brake. This is what distinguishes the heroes of a Coupé des Alpes.
My special thanks go to Kilian. He entrusted Jan, Tobias, and me with his Ferrari 246 GT and his Alfa Romeo Julia Spider.
