At the 1982 Geneva Motor Show, the Lamborghini Countach finally received the 5-liter engine for which it had originally been designed. This was the Countach’s first model update in four years, following a series of incremental improvements since the production version’s introduction in 1974.
The 5000S was originally called the 500S, but this new designation was somewhat misleading, as the new engine had a displacement of only 4,754 cm³. Its power output was 50 bhp higher than that of the previous 4-liter engine.
Some later models featured a new rear end with an extended trailing edge, making the vehicle about one inch longer. A total of 321 vehicles were produced over a three-year period.
