The first owner of this vehicle was a German man of Jewish descent named Stein, who purchased the car on February 14, 1940, from a BMW dealer in Cologne. For understandable reasons, he emigrated to Illinois, USA, in the spring. Mr. Stein kept the car for about 10 years and then sold it to an American of German descent in the state of Oklahoma. Due to a lack of spare parts, the BMW was no longer used after 1978. The resulting damage made it unroadworthy, and so the BMW was sold to an interested party in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 1989. The 327 was then completely restored and rebuilt over a period of five years. During the restoration, the engine was replaced with an identical engine from the 326 series and overhauled. The electronics were also brought up to the state of the art at the time. It was not until 1995 that the vehicle was registered and driven by its then owner. In the spring of 2008, the coupe changed hands for the last time. The BMW is now excellently documented. Its entire history has been written down from the perspective of the third owner. All invoices, documents, and receipts are available, as are photos of the restoration and several expert reports.
